Beauty Light: how red light stimulates collagen and skin elasticity
From Smart Tan cabins to Collarium Excellence: why 10 minutes of 633 nm LED can make your skin firmer and brighter.
In addition to an even tan, the Smart Tan cabins and the Collarium Excellence emit a red light at 630-660 nm called Beauty Light. This wavelength penetrates up to 4 mm into the dermis, where it activates the fibroblasts responsible for collagen and elastin synthesis.
1 - What is Beauty Light
In the Prestige 1600 models and the solar showers the red LEDs are integrated between the UV lamps; in the other luminaires it is the tubes themselves that emit red light and are in fact called hybrids, in the Collarium they are predominant, with a red light/ UV ratio of up to 3 : 1.
2 - Biological mechanism
Light at 633 nm is absorbed by mitochondrial cytochromes, increasing cellular ATP. In vivo studies show +30 % procollagen I and -19 % MMP-1 (enzyme that degrades the extracellular matrix) after 10 sessions of 8 minutes.
3 - Optimal Blue Light Protocol
- Booster phase: 2 sessions/week for 4 weeks.
- Maintenance: 1 session every 7-10 days.
- Supplements vitamin C (500 mg) to promote collagen cross-linking.
4 - Who benefits
- Skins stressed by photo-aging or dry environments.
- Those who practise outdoor sports and want rapid skin recovery.
- Over-40s wishing to improve elasticity and tone without invasive treatments.
5 - Myths vs. reality
Statement |
True / False |
Short explanation |
'Red light tans more' |
False |
It does not stimulate melanin, it acts on the dermal fibres. |
"It only works with long cycles" |
False |
First instrumental differences already after 4-6 sessions. |
'It is harmful' |
False |
It is visible light; no erythema, also suitable for phototype I. |
Beauty Light is the perfect tanning ally: while the bronze appears on the surface, collagen production in the dermis is intensified, resulting in a firmer, glowing skin. By following a constant protocol you will achieve visible results in just a few weeks.
