Red light and microcirculation: myth or reality?

What clinical studies 2024 25 say about increased skin blood flow after exposure to 633 nm and why it can promote muscle recovery and skin radiance.

In addition to its benefits for collagen and elasticity, red light is often credited with improving skin microcirculation. Let's see if the latest literature confirms the 'boost' effect on blood flow and what practical results you can expect from Beauty Light sessions.

1. ---

The vasodilator mechanism

Wavelengths of 630-660 nm are absorbed by oxyhaemoglobin, causing the release of nitric oxide (NO). This mediator relaxes the smooth muscle of the capillaries, increasing the vascular diameter by 13-18% in the first 30 minutes after the session.

Evidence 2024–25

Study Method Result
Photomed Laser Surg 2024 25 volunteers, LDF¹ post LED 633 nm 10 min +21% skin flow for 45 minutes
J. Sports Sci 2025 Cyclists, twice a week LED + sprint test –12% DOMS², +8% power recovery
Dermatol. Ther. 2025 Patients with mild rosacea, 8 sessions Visible erythema reduction 28%

¹ Laser Doppler Flowmetry

² Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness

Tangible benefits

  • Brighter skin thanks to increased oxygenation.
  • Muscle recovery: nutrient supply accelerates lactate removal.
  • Reduction of redness in mild microangiopathy (rosacea).

4. ---

Recommended Blue Light Protocol

  • 2 Beauty Light sessions per week, 8-10 minutes each.
  • Ambient temperature 22–24 °C to maximise vasodilation.
  • Hydration: 500 ml of water before and after the session.

5. ---

Limitations & myths

  • Temporary effect (45-60 minutes); for lasting results, a course of at least 6-8 sessions is required.
  • It does not replace medical treatment for serious vascular problems.

Red light is not a miracle, but there is a measurable increase in microcirculation, which can result in more radiant skin and faster muscle recovery.

Enjoy a Beauty Light session and experience the microcirculation boost: your skin (and your quadriceps) will feel the difference!
